Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Bowman - thanks for that link.

Would love a Mila Vega, which is v similar to that top end Lumonite torch, but can't afford either but the air2 might be an option.

My current one is ok, but just not quite bright enough, nor with a wide enough beam dispersal for effective night orienteering.

That Lumonite one might do the trick.

It's that or a petzl nao+

Rf_ fozzy,
The lumolite is really as good as they say. It’s a big hit in Finland and Sweden. There are a jungle out the with battery times and lumen, but what the specs say with them is spot on.

I have had a top of the line Silva, it was utterly crap compared. Pound for pound so to speak.
Good luck with your purchase!

I'm a size 8(ish) and if I'm wearing my chest light I'm likely to have a couple of layers of clothing underneath. I'll have a play with the straps on mine later but suspect it's much the same as the Decathlon one.

Have to say so far I’m not massively impressed with my silva. It’s okay but the reviews promised much more.

All in all though I’ve found the head torch easily the most difficult of kit to work out what to get.

I have had my Nitecore HC30 for at least 4 years so it would be interesting to know how long those who claim copying have been going.
This short video shows the illumination levels.

Thanks Tikka - that's very helpful.

I just don't get on with where the head torch illuminates. I've resorted to carrying it which works better but I don't like to carry things when running and have to restrict my normal arm movement if I am.

Little Miss Happy I’ve just measure the chest strap at it’s tightest. It comes to approx 25”/62cm *unstretched* so my guessing is below an approx 28”/71cm it’s going to move around. No idea what a size 4 chest measurement might be, but hope that helps.

LMH, I think the answer for us is 'Knuckle Lights'. Unfortunately they don't have a UK distributor, and I'm assuming the customs fees would cost more than the product to ship from America, which is a pity as they get really great reviews.

Mr. Grumpy
I bought the missus some Knuckle Lights last year as she couldn’t get on with my chest torch, so she was trying to use a hand held torch. I haven’t tried them myself, but she said that they were really good. They’re the rechargeable ones that come as a pair with a charging dock.

Mr Grumpy, that seems to be the general consensus. I wish they had a distributor in the UK.

About This Thread

Maintained by
This was going to be a thread recommending me a lightweight head torch. However a comment from a fellow fetchie (thanks V'rap) got me thinking about chest torches instead. Having done a bit of research the only downfall I can see is that some of them seem to rock around a bit much, especially if you have a bit of a random up and down gait. So I wondered if anybody had used them and had any particular success or failures with any particular model, particularly with regard to lighting the...
