Mr D - that's quite a story. I always feel sorry for those who get cheated out of their podium place. Sure, they might get the medal reinstated later, but they miss the moment of glory. Even at my very lowly level in a very small town, it's an awesome feeling getting a medal. Rotten to have that taken from you SPR - that's one of the thins in Mr D's article - someone says: well at least if you are doping, you are still using your body to get around. I 'fess up to Pocket Coffee. It's the dogs. |

Hmm, I'd wondered about cadging someone's inhaler. I'll just stick to my Jakeman's then. Although I wouldn't be surprised to find a few cocoa snorters in these parts independent.co.uk |

I'm pretty sure I couldn't do it: I still feel my 5k pb is a bit fraudulent, because I was paced around by a friend and wouldn't have done it without her. I have a view on mechanical doping too. MrJB has an electric-assist Bike (he also walks very oddly due to fairly extensive internal leg scaffolding, so can justify the motor six ways to Sunday) but he logs his rides on At least he's not racing with it. |

From NYT article: "Litton, a Michigan dentist in his 40s, was a champion marathon runner who claimed to regularly run marathons in under three hours and who was, he said, setting some sort of record by completing marathons in all 50 states. Neither assertion was correct, but give him points for effort. Once, he went so far as to invent a fake marathon in Wyoming, complete with a fake website, fake competitors, fake race officials and a fake winner (himself)." Now that's bonkers. |

Good hard training and lucky genetics are responsible for my times, I do take decongestants when suffering with sinus issues but that would only be occasional use and never to enhance results, if I have taken them before racing that would be chance rather than design, if I am racing against anyone who has an unfair (doping) advantage then I neither know nor care.

I see mechanical doping as being in the same category as people who cut corners or hop into a car during a race, and of being orders of magnitude "worse" than taking even quite sophisticated drugs but still doing the event with your own body. Neither is OK, of course. I confess to being tempted, on occasion, to swap Garmins with eL Bee! so that I can piss off the |
