oh no that's so hard because you mum loves him there but you can't rely on the carers
what would happen if the meds aren't that frequent?
I guess the main question is ... is he in pain?
big hugs

He doesn't appear to be in any pain, but wouldn't be able to go out any more. (Not really an issue as they only go out when I am here).
The vet said that the meds would have to be two, twice a day.
Half of the carers don't even know which one of them IS Spike

Vixx - we went through exactly the same with our cat, he had an allergic reaction to flea treatment which caused the same problem with his heart. We knew we wouldn't be able to manage the tablets and it was just prolonging the situation. It was the hardest decision to make but we knew it was best for him.
Big hugs as it is such a hard decision to make

Oh, Vixx, I am so sorry for you. I presume moving him to your place is not an option?

Thanks Sporty2010 and IT Granny.
One of our ex-carers (who does the cleaning) has said that she can do once a day for him Mon-Sat if we need. It'll just be the other times that need looking at.
We'll know later if we need this plan anyway.

IT Granny - I would only move either cat in the event of mom's death. Manchester is a long journey and we live in a flat. They are company for mom more than anything. I have managed to tell her last night I was taking Spike to the vet and that they were keeping him for now, but nothing else.

Sympathies Vixx, itโs the hardest decision we ever have to make, but whatever you decide will be the best one x

Oh no Vixx!
Would he be ok with the cleaner 5x a week once?
If not, I would very much feel this is the end of the road for the poor thing. Lasya would HATE having tablets forced onto her twice a day. Her quality of life would deteriorate. I think Spike can tell you how he feels. Can he still lie on your mothers bed? And can he eat, drink, ablute on his own? Is he in any pain?
So sorry you have to go through all of this
