Hmmm.. I can see that hoping to park at Withdean as a spectator may not be the best idea as it’ll probably fill up with marathon runners who didn’t get a park and ride space (assuming the marathon park and ride isn’t using that car park).

If the usual set up is in place, the road closure is at The Deneway so traffic is diverted west of the A23. People often park just north of here, off of Brangwyn Drive and walk the mile or so down to Preston Park. I suppose the alternative is to drive closer to Preston Park much earlier before the road closures take effect around 6.30 am.
Park & Ride on a first come, first served basis is going to be interesting. Hopefully, it will work out otherwise there will be some very upset and mentally exhausted participants even before the race has actually started.
Buxton water in bottles! At least there has been some compromise here. Give runners their bottles but provide fewer drink stations so that they have to retain their bottle and reduce waste and excessive discarded bottles on the road.

Thanks Phil. I have an irrational aversion to parking in front of people’s houses if I can avoid it, but those houses have driveways so I guess it won’t be too much of a nuisance parking there. No way am I getting there before 6:30

Interesting they've gone back to bottles, after the very hot year when they ran out of water, they changed to cups filled from standpipes which meant they could never run out, the half marathon moved to standpipes as well this year after nagging southern water to get them to set them up. It's also easier logistically transport water down pipes than in bottles in vans!
There were always complaints form residents about plastic use so the half were pleased they'd gone plastic free.
Buxton water are a London sponsor so that'll be why.

Parking - difficult to know how bad it will be, Withdean might be too close to Start and be busy with runners. Depends what part of the route you want to be near but other options are the east side of Hove park or from Preston Park follow Surrenden Road/ Braybon Avenue heading north, the further you go, the less restrictive parking regs become and the more space there will be. You're certain to find space but may be a bit of a walk. Don't worry about parking outside peoples houses, Brighton parking is always busy so we're used to it, there's no option!

Race pack has arrived - thank goodness. With all the delays in getting important information out, I was getting concerned that race packs would be equally slow.
Just the see-through kit bag (good size with a draw string top), bib number, bag sticker and some safety pins. No freebies such as gels, energy bars or adverts as in previous years but I guess that is what we'll pick up at the finish.

Negatives - Facebook's going into meltdown because no-one's received email about park and ride that was promised by the end of yesterday.
- BM are putting out lots of calls for volunteers (shouldn't thay have been doing that weeks ago?) but they still don't reply to offers of volunteering!
- A27 closed westbound at Shoreham/Lancing so if you're driving home that way afterwards there will be a slow diversion via Steyning and Washington.
Positives - I just saw someone on FB say their racepack has arrived
- rail strikes have been called off!
