insurance cover will probably be the deciding factor on this....if the insurance will cover any injuries/issues then it'll probably be on, if not...well I guess they'll cancel the race.

Good lord, Daz! What would the premium be on, say, 1500 runners in clearly hazardous conditions? Surely the 'Run at own risk etc.' clause comes into play here.

don't think it's a simple as saying "Run at your own risk"....if someone slips on ice, falls under a car, that get out clause wouldn't stand up in court...

Remember, the organisers have to do a risk assessment, and mitigate the risks identified...regardless of the fact that us runners would be happy to run, the organisers do have a duty of care to the entrants.

But how do they risk assess weather conditions not in place when the assessment is carried out? I take your point, Daz, but hundreds of fell runners a months go a over t and get injured without resorting to litigation.

Ah but fell runners are a different breed ;-) Bit like a rugby player getting bished n bashed n it's part of the game and a footballer falling over and claiming compound fracture if his shoelace is undone ;-)

If it's off, I'll be annoyed, but provided the roads are clear, I will head over to Penistone Hill and do the Stanbury Splash Fell race. That won't be cancelled!!

good point about Fell Running/Runners swittle but it's like comparing apples and oranges....

I feel for the organisers...had this been 15 years ago they'd just say "man up and crack on" but in this modern era of "Where there is a blame there is a claim" you couldn't blame 'em for airing on the side of caution.
