Knowing the course route I would imagine that compacted snow and ice is a major issue for them...I can't imagine that too many cars have been down that route, with more snow and sub-zero temperatures forcast for the next couple of days I can only imagine what state the course could be in come Sunday morning.
My gut feeling is that this one has a 50/50 chance of going ahead...!

I was at Clifton Moor yesterday and the pavements on the side roads were compacted snow (but where I live there's no snow).
I'm guessing it's likely to be called off, the forecast isn't hopeful.

that's my thoughts Meglet...the compacted snow is a MAJOR issue on the paths at the moment and I can only imagine how bad the HM route will be. When you add the forecast of more snow and continued sub-zero temperatures we could be looking at the first ever cancellation of the race.!
If it does fall foul of the weather I wonder if they'll try and re-run it later in the year..! I hope so...

I'd imagine a re-run will depend on availability of the racecourse and the police, but with the extra costs involved might be very tricky.

I read last night in the race pack that there's no refunds if the race is cancelled but you're free to pick-up your race momento from the racecourse on the day...!!! Not sure I'll bother driving over to pick-up a t-shirt...!

true...I think an early call (Saturday) is prudent as many runners will be travelling a reasonable distance for this one.

I live on the edge of the Dales and although we have a reasonable covering of snow for ocne even the side roads seem clear. If its the same around the York villages we might be OK - although with the forecast for snow tomorrow I guess like SOD Iron says it's probably 50/50 if it will go ahead.

Like Meglet and I said earlier, the issue is not so much the snow but the compacted snow and ice that will undoubtedly be peppered throughout the route.
From what I’ve seen in my local area the main roads are clear but the minor roads are still struggling with compacted ice and snow. Given that most of the route is on minor roads with little or no traffic flowing I fear that this will continue right into next week.
Here’s hoping I’m wrong…but I’ve already pencilled in an alternative training session to my race ‘just in case’.

I hope it goes ahead for you guys still able to take part. My number still hasn't been transfered I would feel guilty if I had transfered it though and then the race was cancelled. I wouldn't feel quite so gutted about being injured and not able to run it though if it was called off
