Looks like he's coming off the side of Catbells on the Anni Waltz descent line. Makes sense to avoid all those rocky steps I guess.

I can't help wondering how much Tom's thinking was influenced by James prescence? I'm not sure he expected to have him on his tail from so early on and when he did I'm sure he thought that before long he would ease away. In Tom's position it is very hard to stop yourself thinking that you need to push harder every time James gets close and that's draining, particularly when you're fighting the environment as well. For James it would almost be the opposite impact, every time he got sight of Tom must have given him a real lift, particularly as he was the underdog. At Mardale Tom had rightly hunkered down because of the conditions but to do that and then find when you were ready to move that James is coming over the hill and by the time you get back on the route is likely to be ahead on the ground must have been pretty dispiriting.

Exactly right, that's just what we've been thinking. It became a race far too early.

That's been a fantastic effort from James, and importantly his support team as well.
Assuming he doesn't stop off in those pubs mentioned, will be under 200 hours, which is a nice number to beat given the conditions.

He's actually moving over this final section really well, phenomenal really.

Mingma is live on FB and has just posted a vid of James entering that bit of the CW that goes over Fawe Park. Big smiles and running well :-)

I have thought similar about the James and Tom thing too. Tom did say that James had more winter mountaineering experience than he did - I bet that would have played on the mind a wee bit as well.

Chapeau to James..... bloody fabulous stuff and so properly and sensibly done too.

Well done James! Tom not living locally probably had a bit of an impact as potentially not having as good a base to hunker down in and wait out the weather (I read somewhere that Tom works in a hospital so may not have had the option to sit it out)

Very well executed, from the pics and videos I’ve seen he looks cheerful and almost comfortable throughout.

Well done James :)
