The Scribbler
Sweetie - if the nicks haven't gone all the way through, they shouldn't be a problem. If you wanted, you could try a bit of gluing together using a product called Black Witch (avail on Wiggle and elsewhere). I've used it to patch up an actual tear that happened when my zip got yanked too sharply.

Thanks for the replies Scribbler and Gobi, that is reassuring to know. Looks like I have bought myself a wetsuit then! No excuses now! |

Mine has a big gouge in the front where I got washed up against the stones on Exmouth beach; I had such buoyancy due to the salt water, wetsuit and body fat that I couldn't stand up! It's been there quite happily for two years - I really must buy some Black Witch.

Helegant ( and anyone else who is not keen/new to cold water swimming) I thought of something else today. As the water gets colder ice-cream headache gets to be a problem. Some people buy a neoprene helmet but two swim caps will do fine. The other thing I did last year was swap from my usual goggles to more of a mask shape. Misting up can be a problem but it keeps more of your face out of contact with the cold water!

Thanks LD. That may explain the number of people I saw with mask-shaped goggles - not something I'd seen before. I thought I would ask at the boat club on the lake outside my house to see whether they allow OW swimming (there is a tri there at least once a year so the water should be clean enough). Otherwise it's quite a trek to the next nearest place.

Helegant, make sure they test for Blue-Green Algae bloom - although I understand it's ont fatal is can be a concern (although not at this time of year...) shropshiretri.info |

Thank you g1ngerrevolution. A good point because there are notices around the lake at certain times each year warning of blue-green algae. So much to learn ![]() |
