Morning all. I’m looking at adding more body weight exercises into my routine, rather than lifting weights. Can anyone recommend somewhere, be it a website, YouTube channel, book etc that is good for an introduction to these exercises and what is aimed at runners? |

If you’re looking for run specific S&C Dr Richard Blagrove’s got a decent book out, Strength & Conditioning for Endurance Running. For pure Calisthenics School of Calisthenics has a good pedigree in terms of their qualifications, ability to perform exercises and high quality clients. Al Kavadlo/the Kavadlo brothers are ok for beginners Calisthenics. |

The Related Threads box there >>> (or there v v v on mobile?) Has a load of strength and core threads, which have great links in them to loads of bodyweight exercises Dave. Try those threads too? ![]() |

Cheers. I’ll take a look at the books. I had dipped into the other threads, but this one is the most recently used so figured it would be the best one to get information through. |

Don't know if it was a full on scientific study or just some work with a group of skiers but someone on a CrossFit podcast I was listening to was saying that downhill skiers improved their performance after doing regular pull ups. This seems odd as there is no obvious direct link from lats/bicep strength to the strength needed in downhill skiing (possibly pushing out of the gate I guess?) but the implication being drawn was that increasing strength in almost any way improves athletic performance. I suspect the reality is a bit more complicated than that and I've not looked for any evidence of this as a proper controlled trial. Anyway, Deadlifts, Squats, Bench and pull ups this evening. I've reached the point where my bench press is making me nervous as I don't have anyone to spot for me so I think it might be a while before I up the weight on that again! |

I have now managed to deadlift 5kg more than my own body weight. One of my goals. 😁

Excellent quimby I'm trying to target deadlifts equivalent to my body weight. Currently I can manage 57kgs so I need to add 3 more kgs. Not going to add that until I can get my form a bit stronger.
