I'm sorry if I 'vociferously banned' anyone, it's not really my style and I can't find a remark I wrote like that anywhere in the LWL thread. There were many reasons for starting the older thread in the first place, they still stand. Greg's TOTP question was the first thing I saw today when I opened my Fetch on my Mac. I was hooked in! ![]() Incidentally I think women like deadlifts because they are so much more a lower body push than an upper body pull. |

I think that's very unfair. I’m sorry SPR you’ll need to be a bit more specific, but I’m not sure why you’d want to make this into something it wasn’t. Unless you're really bored. |

Meanwhile, Sharkie, the whole push/pull thing is a really good point. And why we should be able to sit in on each other’s wires. To throw quality input as grist to the mill.

What we need now is a Time Machine so you can see how I was doing deadlifts before last night. It was very much ‘bend over and pull the bar off the floor’. No wonder I hated them because they made my back hurt. |

Sharkie, the Glute Max & upper fibres of the 3 muscles in the hamstring complex pull the hip from a flexed position to neutral during the deadlift. I think the idea of it being a push exercise comes from coaching cues like push the floor away/drive through the heals, but as the bar starts away from body centre & travels towards it it’s a pull exercise. A deadlift does what it does whether it’s called a hip hinge, hip dominant or pull exercise. |

Hour and a quarter with my new PT* last night. Sore this morning. New to me was the whole landmine/lumberjack squat thing. I also learned for a fact what I long suspected - swinging a kettlebell isn’t as simple as it looks. |
