Unusually this year I recognise more names in the ladies too 10 seeds than the men’s (being the sort that swears to follow tennis year-round but finds it difficult due to lack of coverage)
I'm the opposite - recognise all the 32 men's seeds, but there's a lot of names in the women's list I don't recognise - but then I do much prefer to watch the men's game in general.
It seems in Raducanu's absence the hype machine is focused on poor Andy Murray, rather than the more realistic prospects - disappointing for the other British players who could probably benefit from some spotlight being properly shone on them!

I've been watching the qualifying for Wimbledon on the BBC red button. It's been good fun to see old names and new battling it out. Think it's the final day today, must be gutting to lose at the final stage!
I'm in 2 minds re equal pay at Grand Slams. I agree that's it problematic that the women only play 3 sets but I'm not sure there's much appetite to change it. Firstly it would be a scheduling nightmare but it would also change the game. I sometimes enjoy a tight 3-set women's match more than a dragged out 5-set men's marathon. If they wanted to change it I guess they could start with the final where the longer match wouldn't impact the schedule too much.

Some truth in that. But it's so hard to work out. Monfils' 5-set epic at Roland Garros the other week was probably about the best spectacle of a tennis match I've seen, but it had no greater bearing because he had to forfeit the next round anyway.
I'm very torn on making the women's slams Bo5. I'm not entirely convinced it would improve the spectacle of the tournament as a whole. I prefer Bo5 in Davis Cup than (early rounds anyway) slams. At the very least, there's some compromise possible towards some change.

I support equal pay. I get the argument about match length but that’s a diversion and a ‘but women…’ argument.
Tbh sometimes a drawn out 5 setter can be a pain and take too much time out of my day!

Five setters are like test match cricket. Lovely in their way but completely unconnected to the grass roots game. Compare and contrast with the Next Generation ATP Finals which are fast and furious and have things that happen in 'real' club tennis like sudden-death deuces.
At inter-club level the league I play in, the monumentally pompously named "Chelmsford and District Lawn Tennis Federation Chelmsford & District Lawn Tennis League</I>" operates thus (Rule 8):
(a) The MENS LEAGUE will consist of two pairs. Each pair will play TWO traditional sets against each pair of the opposing team, with a tie-break at 6-6 if necessary. (b) The LADIES LEAGUE will consist of two pairs. Each pair will play TWO traditional sets against each pair of the opposing team, with a tie-break at 6-6 if necessary. (c) The MIXED LEAGUE will consist of two pairs. Each pair will play TWO traditional sets against each pair of the opposing team, with a tie-break at 6-6 if necessary.

Okay, that took three attempts to be readable. Please ignore the first two.

Haven't played Winter League (Stock Winter Floodlit League) since before the COVIDs but that used to be *one* set up to eight, with a tie break at seven-all, I believe.

[believe me that's plenty enough tennis for 9pm in February]
