It seemed to be over very quickly. Though after the first set I thought it would be even quicker. Not sure what happened to Jabeur, she seems popular and I’d have liked her to win, but I expect her to have further chances.

Did anybody see the montage they showed about 15mins before the match started? About women’s tennis with Miriam Margolyes narrating. It really moved me espresso when they included the clip of Jana Novotna sobbing on Princess Michael of Kent’s shoulder!

Enjoyed the Women's final today. Still don't really understand why it's not best of 5 sets like the mens. With more time, the match could well have swung back Jabeur's way, and I wasn't really ready for it to end then
I think the slams should be 5 sets for the women now they have the same prize money as the men.

I’d like to see perhaps the finals and semi finals of a slam go to 5 sets. I don’t think the Wimbledon timetable could absorb 5 sets for women from the start.

I don't think there's an easy answer. But it's definitely a question that rightly keeps getting asked.
* Going to 5 sets would make scheduling a much bigger logistical nightmare for the organisers of all 4 slams.
* In one respect, I think to level them up, there's more chance of dropping to 3 sets for men, rather than going up to 5 for women. But then, as many top players have pointed out, you lose what makes a grand slam, a grand slam. (I might be wrong, but I think the Davis Cup went from 5 to 3 during its redesign.)
* I quite like the idea of going from 3 to 5 for the latter stages, though my only reservation is, it happens so rarely that I don't know how fair it would be.
Personally though, I don't think the fact that women play 3 sets rather than 5, lessens its competitiveness and quality at all though.

The best of 5 for men is what differentiates the slams from the other tournaments. This doesn't happen for the women.
It didn't bother me until the women achieved equal prize money to the men. I know think they should play as much as the men (I am female btw).
I realise, this could affect scheduling, particularly at Wimbledon where only two courts can be used late into the evening and then only until 11 pm. Maybe the compromise is to make the first 4 rounds best of 3 and the quarters onwards best of 5 for both men and women.
It'll never happen.

Yep, I'd say this is the best compromise solution to the "slam is a slam", scheduling and equity.
It'll never happen.
Unfortunately. Again. 99.9% fully agree.

I don’t agree that it will never happen. I think Wimbledon has shown it can be progressive, though the pace is slow. But they are listening, like rescheduling some of the wheelchair matches to proper show courts. And now playing on middle Sunday which used to be sacrosanct.
I do agree that to make it equitable and possible within 2 weeks they’d need to do best of 3 in the early rounds and best of 5 later, but there’s still doubles/juniors/wheelchair/seniors to schedule.
They did talk about how Wimbledon has kept 5 sets for men’s doubles rather than dropping to 2 and a tiebreak like other slams (if I’ve understood correctly) so that would need to change first I think.

All the majors (Australian, French, Wimbledon, and US Open) are best of 5 sets for mens, best of 3 for womens.
The other tournaments on the tour, I think without exception, are best of 3. I was quite nonplussed when I first realised tennis wasn't just two weeks in June, and was actually year-round, only to find "lesser" matches being played.
But as Tim Henman said in one of his dull commentaries, (paraphrasing) being best of 5 sets is what makes it an important tournament. I think the irony was lost on him that it's only the chaps who play that much.
While I'm here, can we get more female commentary? I was shocked that the women's final was commentated on by two men and a lady. One of which was chuffing McEnroe. The chaps really like the sounds of their own voice, and lean hard into the utter inanities (the nadir of which was listening to Andrew Castle last year at Queens waffling on about football)

Ugh, and after typing out that utter rant I see you were talking about mens doubles, and I'm an idiot...
I blame the heat.
