I run to and from work every day and I now feel it strange but liberating to run without a ruck sack on my back(makes a nice change)
My tip would be (if possible) to leave, shoes in particular and suit at work and just carry in fresh undies, shirt and tie.

I have never run but bike to work in the summer. The main thing is to keep a supply of as much stuff as you can at your destination so that you have to carry as little as possible.
Toiletries - leave a toilet bag at work. If you can't do that then carry sachets/travel size bottles in your running backpack.
Towels - use the small and absorbent microfibre sports towels.
Clothes - leave clothes at work. If you have to carry make them crush proof. This may be difficult if the dress code at your place of work is very smart.
Smart shoes are a particular problem. Heavy to carry with you.
For my self, being a guy with, therefore, no make up and relatively little hair to worry about means a few issues are avoided.

Get a job much closer to home?
Or move much closer to work?

This is one of the best things I have ever bought. It fits in most of my rucksacks and my cycle paniers.

I leave my shoes at work all the time (whether I'm running or cycling in or not) and wear my trainers to get to/from work. I have a spare pair in the car for when I drive to meetings.

I'm lucky to have gym membership right near work so I can use the lockers there, and also get towels or toiletries rather than bringing my own in. If I can I bring stuff in the day before, but I'm getting happier running with a fairly big rucksack on days when that isn't possible.

I always leave my laptop at work unless there's a reason for taking it home (offsite meeting the next day etc). If it's just a case of getting some work done in the evening I get it done *before* I leave work rather than taking it home, even if that means staying later than I'd like to.

Makes me realise how lucky i am, i have my own desk with drawers, i have access to many lockers, a big hanging space, and three showers now connected to the hot water.

Shame its too far for me to run to work :-P

I have cycled in and sometimes run at lunchtime, so i do take advantage of it :-)

I keep my shoes at work, and a towel that I change weekly. I have a toilet bag here too with the necessaries. There's also a coat on the back of my chair. I run in with everything else, and careful folding works fine for clothes (they then get slid into one of those freebie cloth drawstring bags to keep them nice). I use a 20L OMM and it's great - sometimes a wee bit too big, but great if I need to carry anything a bit extra like work, or shoes or a coat on top of lunch and clothing for the day. And if there's space, you can pull the cords in on the side and squish everything down.

Running to work is great :)

Great - thanks all. I really appreciate all the suggestions (except the ones about changing jobs :P) and will definitely put a microfibre towel and Binks' fantastic folder on my shopping list, then set about finding a suitable backpack.

It actually makes you want to do ironing, just to fill it up :)
