HappyG(rrr), if you’re on Facebook, you could do a lot worse than join the “Board Game Trading and Chat UK” group and ask there for recommendations for cafes/clubs/meet-ups in the vicinity of your town/area. They’re generally a pretty helpful bunch (but it’s not FE, of course!).

May not be as friendly and helpful as FE Synge, but casts the net wider, good suggestion.

Son has just said he might be up for online version of Carcassonne. That would be fun! :-) G

I got the Expedition Leaders expansion for Arnak, which I’m really looking forward to playing.

We got this to the table a couple of times over the holidays.
It's a big of a beast. The first time we played it took four hours to set up, play and pack away (down to under 3 hours the second time, once we were more familiar with the rules).

After the Empire

That sounds quite a beast, alright. I need to get Arnak, too.

BrBrum is still taking 2p a good 2h here, but I think overall strategy is becoming clearer, after about five efforts (three Canals only). Still prone to make the odd mistake with the rules, though.

The player boards for After the Empire are what initially caught my attention. You get to upgrade your wooden castle with stone walls and add wooden and/or stone turrets on the corners.

Then having watched a review, I brought it. And glad I did. Relatively simple game with lots of choices to chose on your route to victory. A well balanced combination of worker placement and tower defense with a few nice touches in it.

This will get to the table a lot, I hope. But probably only at weekends for now.
