We bought this game and played it a few times over the Xmas hols:

catherine-redgate.co.uk

It's good fun and the cards are lovely to look at. We did end up making a couple of 'house rules' to help the game along in a couple of respects, but I recommend it.

We also got given this by our son and his girlfriend:

bigpotato.co.uk

Much hilarity playing this with my Dad who kept answering with what he thought, not really getting that you're supposed to answer with the reply you think most people will give. An example: Name your favourite sauce; We all said tomato ketchup, Dad says cheese.

Those look interesting. I've never bought a kickstarter.

The SO caved and bought Ark Nova today. Not sure we should get into it before fully sorting out BrBrum - my head mightn't take it.

OK we did succumb to Ark Nova and we're entering our third day of intermittent play of the first game! It's shaping up to be a good game.

We played Triv last night for the first time in years. We’d bought it in a charity shop so the questions were 2003, but I knew more than I thought I did. We do play a lot of Scrabble but my husband always wins because, although I’m better at spelling, he knows how to ‘play’ the game. All good fun.

Yeah, you can be a mean scrabble player if you memorize a lot of two- and three-letter words and play in parallel instead of at right angles 😈

I’m a good speller but I’m not very good at word games as I can’t see words with the available letters. I’m no good at anagrams either.

Just popped back to say Phew. We finished our first game of Ark Nova on our third day of intermittent play. Even so, we like it, I think, especially since it has built-in coffee breaks.

Scrabble. I’ve always prided myself on being good at anagrams, but, unless you’re able to use all your tiles in one play and get the bonus, I really don’t think the game is about anagrams. I think it’s much more important to be able to get high-value letters onto the premium spaces and that’s done as often as not with quite short and common words. And stopping your opponent being able to get anywhere near triple-word score spaces.

Ark Nova is still on the unplayed list, but it will get to the table in the first half of 2024. We’re still hooked on Arnak and currently working through the various “expedition leaders”, pitting them against each other and learning how to get the most out of each of them; they are very different from each other and require completely different approaches to use them well.
