I think I know what you mean. I wish there were a European standalone available.

Just picked up After the Empire. Brought it after watching a review but also because the castles looks cool.
I know, I'm just a grown up a child.

I want Farms Race. It's like Catan... only you can nuke your opponents.

My game of the year for 2023: Dune Imperium. Played as a 4 player game and it was awesome.. enjoyed the game play so much I didn't mind coming last! The theme was also excellent... so if you like Dune it helps!
Worker placement, card building and competitive interactions so your actions impact other players.
Will have to get some more games of this in next year... and try to buy it for myself!

Yes, it gets good reviews. I think it is on my (long) wishlist.

After close to 30 years away from it, for me the game of the year is Blood Bowl.
Missus brought me the new ruleset (Second Season) when it came out in 2020 and I finally finished painting one of the two teams in the box about March (this year).
Been playing it the last few months and having so much fun. Even though I'm losing far more often than I win. Now own six teams, two fully painted plus a few extra odd and sods done for the game for fun.
