There are some odd things that require age verification; I believe there's a sauce (I can't remember which one) which has a 0.1% alcohol content (or something like that) which also triggers the age check. It is definitely supermarket policy to intentionally check for age on non-alcohol drinks. If they were challenged by a (say) 16yo who wanted to buy non-alcohol beer for themselves (or for others) they are lawfully allowed to refuse to sell it (they can refuse to sell me tomatoes if they want) But equally I don't think there is any law which prevented them from selling it either so long as it is below the 0.5% threshold (in England anyway). It's just "good practice" generally in place to avoid confusion. Bloomin' annoying though when you want to rapidly head through the self service and have a 4 pack of guiness 0.0 in your bag and it then takes 5 minutes for the attendant to become free. |

Yes I just googled. I reckon it is wrapped up in the 0.5% law.

Because it might be easy to substitute a real beer for an alcohol free one. I don't get that though OS - the till is a computer. It knows exactly the product and that product has a description which includes whether it is below 0.5%. If it is, even if it "looked" identical to a full alcohol beer, it doesn't need to trigger an age check? I don't mind. I'm rarely in that much of a hurry. I just can't see what the point is. G |

I guess at a self service it would be feasible to carry two bottles in your hand - one AF and on 5.0%. Scan the AF one, put the 5% one on the "scales" (to avoid the unexpected item issue), scan the AF one again, so the till thinks two items bought, neither need age check, off they go. It is a bit of a niche issue and is irritating if your not an alcohol buyer, especially an older man or woman where age clearly is not an issue for purchasing. But I've not found a supermarket that doesn't do it that way yet! |

Could also do that with a kg of cheese and a kg of flour. But you wouldn't. Would you? G

I'm not sure they'd look as closely identical as two cans of the beach, one AF and one 5% though.

I had the Corona Cero today which was pretty good actually - especially as it is a 0.0%. The difference between the versions of the bland lagers is quite small

Any opinion on Bitburger Drive 0.0%? Going to my first gig in erm, 3 years tomorrow, and that is apparently the only zero beer on offer.
