Morning all from virtual west coast California

4th July
In USA
Cue celebrations! Well, maybe.

I’ve spent quite a few 4th July’s in US. To start with in and around Boston & New Hampshire. Seemed to be lots of fireworks and chilli competitions.
Then more recently on the west coast, where I’ve argued with US friends over ‘taxation without representation’. Based on my experience of needing to pay California and US taxes from about 2012. But not getting any Californian or US right to vote.

But before the celebrations, a coast walk to Point Cabrillo and the lighthouse.

And then, back to try small town Mendocino (pop 826 including us) Independence time.
Well, first off, we missed the big one. The world’s largest salmon bbq on the first Saturday in July. I think that’s (world’s largest) (salmon bbq), rather than (worlds largest salmon) bbq. But it’s cancelled this year, so we’ll never know. (*or care).

Surprisingly, the bbq and ‘eat as much salmon as you can’ is in aid of the Salmon Restoration Fund. I will keep quiet and not suggest ‘not catching’ and ‘not eating’ might do more to help the salmon.

So – without salmon, it seems next up is the Fort Bragg (pop 7,287. Remember? There’ll be a quiz when we get home) Fireworks. The ‘whole day celebration’ has been curtailed, but the evening fireworks will go ahead. But to make sure it’s OK, they’ve banned guns, alcohol, explosives and other fireworks. So that’s OK.

Except they’ve even banned those ‘herbal products’ fresh from the fields yesterday.

Back to normal tourism tomorrow.

Nice pics Um especially the first two - looks gorgeous! I’m wondering why one wold need to ban locks from a firework display... The list of offensive weapons people might be thinking of bringing is a bit concerning though *edges discretely towards the exit*

Run done, all seems back to my normal. :)

The first barber's had 3 people inside, the second nearby had about 10 in a queue then a later one had about half a dozen queuing outside. Most of the hairdressers had only one customer inside. It was nice not having my thick mop sticking to my head in the sticky warmth this morning.

Nice pics, um!

Team banana lost again last night; they just couldn't get it in the net despite a half-dozen chances. Game for 7-8 spot later. (It's great that all teams play the same number of games so noone really gets knocked out and has to sit around for 2 days.)

I ran 16x1min F. Reasonable ankling. I should be doing a long one tomorrow but I think I'll just start and see how long I last.
