I reckon the rest and elevation of using peas is part of the therapeutic effect. I use a wine cooler sleeve or gel filled pad rather than peas, for convenience and dryness.

I did wonder about the R and E bits of icing, Lizzie but the purpose of icing is to reduce inflammation so presumably the freeze gel would bd better than nothing?

(I don't actually have any freeze gel, just wondering whetherto get some!)

I don't know about the rub on gel LD, whether it just simulates coldness rather than having an anti-inflammatory effect - but as Lizzie says you can get gel filled pads which are good. The one I have can be kept in the freezer to use as a cold pack or microwaved as a hot pack (great for stiff necks!).

Lovely lunch run for me, nice bit of sunshine in between the showers and was rewarded with a very pretty rainbow, definitely one of those 'glad to be alive' type runs :-)

I remember something on the telly when they looked at that freeze spray/gel and the cooling effect was very minimal compared to using an actual cold thing.

LD i have iced then put freeze gel on. This is in the acute stage though when applying ice every 2 hours. My own feeling is the ice gel/peas whatever for 10 mins is far colder than the rub on gels.
I am now heat phase hot water bottle far more comfortable
Going to watch Madness tonight do think I will moving to much with this hamstring :-(

Fleecy I hope to be at Gutbuster :-)

I have peas and gel packs in my freezer and tea towels to wrap them in always handy. I haven't used them for ages and I think that freezing is only really done for the first 2 or 3 days at the acute stage and then no more than 10 minutes at a time about every 4 hours or so. You should never put the frozen item directly on your skin.

AP normally depending on severity of injury the acute stage is between 48-72 hours. I then do contrast bathing which involves ice & heat on and off in short bursts example 2 mins ice 2 mins heat for 30-35 mins 3 times a day

This pod said no more than 3 min icing for me or I might cause damage. It was no good me telling her all the stretching I was doing as my calf was plainly still rigid

About This Thread

Welcome to the 700 miles in 2018 thread, everybody welcome :-)

The thread motto is:

'700 miles is neither necessary nor sufficient'

All you have to do is run about 1.91 miles per day or 13.46 miles per week or 58.33 miles per month and take a picture when you get to 700 miles of either you or the spot you reached the target or both if you want to. And if you go under or over 700 miles nobody will mind.

Join in the chat on the friendliest thread around - all things discussed and sometimes even some running is talked about.

Next year's spreadsheet can be found here - let's fill it up
