Seren when I did the FA treatment of injury so based on football injuries we were taught maximum of 15 mins in the acute phase after this the ice can start to kill cells etc and cause more damage and as others have said never put ice to skin. My gel packs fit in a sleeve then Velcro round
Nearly finished few more mins with the ice and I can get on with other jobs though car is in for a service & MOT so waiting for call to collect and empty ones wallet

Paula, I rescued you yesterday - I thought I replied!
For GM if she's lurking; I have just been down at the South Bank and I can confirm that That Building is undamaged. The top bit anyway. The bottom is covered in scaffolding.

Wonderful pictures Ymee.
I have a bag of peas in the freezer which has been there for years, coming out from time to time to be wrapped in a towel and placed on inflamed areas.

Thank you all for the ice info, that's very helpful. I was surprised that my pod told me to keep up with the icing (I'm nearly two months into this foot problem now) but she said that until the inflammation which is causing the trouble has completely subsided, it's worth keeping up with. I'll get some of those refreezable packs.

Nice pics Ymee., especially the last one.
LD, I think that when you have one of these long term injuries, the only real thing that fixes it is time, try to get on with life without doing anything that aggravates it and suddenly you'll realise that the problem had finally gone away.
