I've already heard the new Ed Sheeran album. Well to be exact I've listened to lots of music over the years so almost certainly have heard all the tracks he's nicked.... |

Got back on track (pun intended) over the last few days. Just working my way through Front Page Acid by Lunacy Sound Division. If you like the kind of music I like, then you'll like this. So far I've cooked and coded to it. Lots of lovely progressive loops, with plenty of layers.

Currently listening to "Anxiety Replacement Therapy" by The Lottery Winners. Sounding promising from first few tracks. Will get a review up for Pretty Sicks "Makes Me Sick Makes Me Smile" shortly

I've been Bandcamp-ing it the past few days. Listened to 16(!!) new to me albums on the trot of varying quality. Being me, I'll probably blog some of it. However one I really want to bring to everyone's attention is Durand Jones 'Wait Til I Get Over'. It's currently at the top of the 'albums of the year' chart and deservedly so. Five star reviews all over the shop. albumoftheyear.org As I understand it, he's been on a bit of a mission to make 'soul' a viable genre again, fed up with some rather samey R&B offerings. On this album he pretty much sets out to master every R&B style. There's some that are reminiscent of early Sam Cooke or Stevie Wonder, there's a rap track, a big band sound, ballads, a gospel song (all the voices are him - supposedly he set up his mic in different positions around the room and re-recorded himself in all those positions). And Jones' voice is *beautiful*. He can do the raspy Otis Redding kind of singing or the pure high notes of a Marvin Gaye. This'll be one of my top albums of the year for sure. |

Will give it a listen McG. This Lottery Winners album is going to be my favourite "first listen" album so far this year. Very infectious and lively. It has some very welcome contributions from Shaun Ryder, Frank Turner and even Boy George. These guest stars are well done and stand out as themselves where in comparison, the National had guest vocalists on a few songs who you may have not noticed it was them unless you read the sleeve notes.. |

Durand Jones rings a bell. I think I might have listened to something by him recently that was really good... it's coming back to me now, it was a cover version of something that was better than the original. Got it, it was Young Americans, and I love the Bowie version. In other news I am giving Boygenius another listen after my eldest asked me at the weekend if I had heard it. She was rather disappointed when I said I found it a bit meh. It is better than I remembered, but more for her than me. |

Durand Jones was/is also in a band called Durand Jones and the Indications so there's also material under that name - he shares lead vocal duties when with Indications.

Praise indeed if you prefer his version to a Bowie one. Like him now people before Jools Holland finds him and inserts Boogie Woogie piano all over it |
