I just about managed to do 200 on Xmas Eve and Xmas day but I’m not really moving off the sofa today :-)

I calculate that I need another 184 to hit my year-end target of 36,600, ie, average of exactly 100 a day.

I plan to do them on Monday.

I've doing my "one per day of the month" hence up to 26 yesterday but my shoulder is now quite sore. Much as I'd like to complete the moth, I think it is wise to quit for a few days and start the 5001 in Jan.

Having a break is a good idea ITG.

Thinking about this a bit recently and I reckon that, unless you're going for a super-high target (15k plus) then doing press ups every day is not as productive, and probably more destructive.

5001 is only 13.7 per day, so doing say 4 sets of 8 every other day is going to be easily enough to hit the target whilst giving recovery time AND a more significant workload when you do the press ups. Doing 14 per day is probably not enough to gain much strength once you're able to do it, or with enough gaps to recover from it.

I've done 60 this morning as part of a CrossFit workout (with Deadlifts and Thrusters), leaving me 41 to do to hit my 8001 for the year. Think I should manage that.

I've been doing 2 sets of 8 most days. So 4 sets of 8 alternate days would be better?

I reckon it would, yes, although I guess it depends how you get on with 2 x 8. If that's your absolute limit then I think trying to do 4 x 8 is going to be too much, but if you're OK doing 2 x 8 then maybe trying 4 x 6 and building the reps over a few weeks on alternate days might be better.

I find that when I've tried to do pressups every day I get a lot more aches and niggles. Some folk might be robust enough to do it that way but being able to and it being the best way are probably 2 different things.

For me, if I don't keep up a regular high volume, my reps drop off rapidly. We're all different I suppose 😊

if you can do 8...mix it up a little...
2 4 6 8 6 4 2

then 4 6 8 8 6 4

then 4 x 6

then 4 x 8

change is good, like intervals in running, if you do the same thing your body gets used to it and stops improving. Also have time off for the muscles to repair.
