Lots of talk about crossfit yet nobody seems to mention box jumps. We had a box jumps thread at one point I seem to recall. Possibly one of SPRs.

Not sure what a box-jump is, but make sure you don't mention it to Nellers or he'll start a thread and badger everybody to do them for an hour.

I like the sound of it . Great practice for Murph like you said.

Jumping on and off a box, CW. standard sizes are 30, 50 and 50cm but really, any strong box you have lying about will do. In summer, I can do them on my patio. You can also step up and down which is really good training too. In my case, I can jump up but step down because I try to reduce impact on my dodgy back. |

I'm lucky - a couple of years ago my gym bought some of those soft-ish specialist boxes. Used to have to use 'step aerobics' steps before that. These sort of things: teamsports.com (very NFL - if anyone has watched Hard Knocks or even Ballers they should look familiar) |

My issue with box jumps is the same as my issue with Olympic lifts: The roof of my shed is too low for me to be able to do them safely! Box jumps are a good movement for power and cardio. It'd do you good all round, TBR. Not just for Murph. |

what's it going to do for me that pull-ups, press-ups and squats won't?

Mainly good cardio and supplementing the power in your quads so the squats won't burn and you'll be better able to get through the pull and press ups without your HR going quite as high.

Ok, my cardio is quite good so I'll give them a miss. Skipping is also good for cardio.

Skipping is not good for cardio - unless you meant skipping and not skipping
