Mr. K.
Gobi - yoga. What about one to one lessons to start with. Your body will always find a `cheating way` of doing some postures.

Mr. K.
Anyway everyone has strengths & weakness - some can bend double but not stand on one leg without failing over.

Kelvin

right now from my start point, even if I am cheating I am hitting the right places off very little movement.

I am not ready to be seen by anyone

pps. I don't want to be good at YOGA by the way I just want the benefit of the exercises to translate into awesome racing :¬)

That's the way to think about yoga Gobi! Whatever works for you is good...and the older we get, the stiffer we get, so that stretching from yoga does pay off.

After a year or so, start looking into Yin yoga (see Bernie Clark's website for more information about it)...holding poses for extended periods of time to get deeper into the fascia, rather than the strengthening aspects of regular yoga. Beginners tend to find Yin harder as the poses involve staying still for 3 minutes or more...it takes a while before one can manage these things and explains why DocMoye tried a Yin class and didn't enjoy it.

As for spirituality...it can be as spiritual or less spiritual as you want it. I'm more interested in the mindfulness aspect of it...the maddening thing was going into yoga class, trying to make a mental note of what we did, only to be so in the moment that I could remember very little of what we did!!

Kelvin, you've got a good point there...we're all good at something and less so than others at other things in yoga.

My balance sucks...so tree pose, eagle, warrior 3 and half moon are challenging to me...but I can get into Lotus with little difficulty (but then I've been doing it on and off since I was a teenager!).
