I agree Steve that static stretching before running is not recommended, but dynamic stretching is. Back in my racing days, everyone did static stretching before a race, but it probably did more harm than good.
That was a good idea, running at 1pm yesterday, instead of your usual early run. Well done for your 5k in adverse conditions.
LL, I'm sorry to hear that you lost yesterday's run due to the Garmin Connect outage, and had to manually download it via a lead to your laptop.
Lesley, I see that you are also considering leaving your job. I never regretted taking voluntary redundancy at 58.5 years.
Well done for this mornings 5 miles on crunchy, icy pavements. Thanks for the photo.
EarlyRiser, thanks for telling us where you now live, having moved from near the Cambridgeshire Fens. I'm glad that you are getting used to running on the hills. Hills are your friends!
This morning was the coldest so far this new year. I ran a very slow and cautious 5k on frosty and slippery pavements.

Good run of 4.2 LL. Quite a challenge up there for you Lesley with snow...none here, we're a bunch of softies in comparison. And I'm able to avoid hills easily 😂. Wise man hs taking things cautiously it's not worth taking a tumble when it can be avoided. How superb to be where you are EarlyRiser at least at this time of year. I was fortunate in my working life never having to have commuted very far, in my last ten years of toil I was only a mile away from base! Once again I went out later to avoid the worst of slippery pavements but still took great care. Went out at 10am , there were still frozen patches along the trails.Did 5.2 in glorious sunshine.

Up and down Wideford Hill. Crunchy snow underfoot. Windy and snowing quite heavily most of the way. Not the fastest run ever. But takes me to 42.6
I once commuted over the Pennines (M62) - possibly explains why I spent most of the rest of my working life within walking distance of workplace (although still requiring car)
I took was fortunate to be able to retire comfortably at 59y3m.

Well done Steve for your 5.2 miles.Very sensible setting off a bit later than usual, due to frozen patches etc.
Well done Peter, for running in what sounds to me like brutal conditions.
That was a tough commute over the Pennines. I hope that your car was reliable!
Your mileage to date is very impressive, putting mine to shame.

I went out tonight on a club run can’t remember the last time I went. Not sure why I picked the coldest day of the year to go. Can’t complain though compared to Lesley and Peter.
