So much to comment on here since Friday. First off have to simply say well done to miles put in by everyone and thanks for the good wishes re my bloody annoying health!

That's not a good enough response to your query to your GP Mrsb , I sure hope something positive emerges...soon. As for high cholesterol you'll know that regardless of healthy lifestyle it can just be bad luck or genetic. That's what mine was put down to. I was put on statins, a good idea in itself given my age and family history; my full heart scan back in December showed my heart to be pretty much ok but small percentage stenosis needed to be kept in check. Ok, but my recent pre diabetic diagnosis had me checking and horror of horrors one of the side effects of statins is increased blood sugar level. Dunno why my GP failed to site this last week . I've done an on line consultation today asking for them to consult with cardiology with a view to reducing my dose.I'm currently on the highest at 80mg (incidentally not recommended normally for people around my age!).
Enough of that. No running since Friday, apart from too much going on I've been too tired (another side effect of statins and pre diabetes!!). Intend to add some miles tomorrow!

Nice morning. Sunshine again. 5.4 along some road and mainly river trail and enjoyed the autumnal feel. 10k is my target now and ought to be easily achievable (but still having to run/walk) soon .
600's sound hard LL so well done incorporating those within a five miler.
Am enjoying the World Athletic Championships, tonight's 1500 should see Laura Muir manage a bronze.🤞

It was an enjoyable run yesterday LL, very slow with the emphasis on distance, rather than time. I know that this is contrary to the common training advice to concentrate on time on the feet, rather than distance, but what do I know, I've only been running and racing for over 40 years 😁

Well done Steve, you seem to be enjoying your run/walk now which is a good sign.

Just the Farmers Walk this morning and looking forward to the athletics later.

It is very true steve, an ex-colleague of mine had the healthiest of diets and had high cholesterol but it was hereditary and not much he could do other than meds. I did get pulled once and doctor tried to give me statins, I refused and was sent to the nurse for referral to a diabetics clinic further review and they were shocked, when they good my good cholesterol into account it took me to a very low number, and add in my lifestyle of a lot of exercise, other markers the nurse literally laughed. But this was at a time when doctors were pushing statins. Its not good.

Glad you got checked out but how frightening that the statins cause increased blood sugar and they didnt pick this up. Its why I am very nervous of taking pills unless its absolutely necessary and I get a 2nd opinion as they fix one thing but can impact another.

My dad had a scary one recently when he was getting checked for things like bowel cancer, the nurse picked up that one of the meds he is on can give as false negative to the test for cancer that put him back months as he had felt sure he was ok after various negative results. Thankfully he came of the meds, retested and still negative.

Anyway great running as always hs, a nice chatty 10.2 sounds blissful. I didnt run yesterday as mam wanted to go so agreed to do after work then she bombed me out!! I did a strength workout instead. She was understandably tired after her wing walk adventure on Sunday and we did walk their socks off over the weeked (5+m Friday and almost 9 on Saturday), late night Friday, early morning Sunday but she absolutely loved it i will blog at some point just been manic since we got home.

We did meet this morning 2.3 together, she did 4m and I did 3.7m.

Good running today gang, good luck with the 10k steve, and hs, slow is still time on feet regardless what the focus is, my coach had me do timed runs but I always rounded them up to a nice round number, haha

I do like knowing that you've done your farmer's walks hs. A great addition to your structured running .
I appreciate what you say about statins gg. I've looked at stacks of research and listened to my cardiologist and based on my age, family history and current 25%stenosis(measured during heart scan) the "odds" on me being susceptible to a heart attack over the next ten years were much reduced in taking statins. However from what I read and hear maybe the dose is over the top. I'll hopefully get a response from cardiology re my query . I'm not bothered about taking medication overall, sometimes the body needs additional help...within reason. Of course there are situations where tests don't show the true picture but "natural" and avoidance of medical input can often be catastrophic. Sadly GP's are not all able to keep tabs on up to date research and side effects of meds so they need a little push from patients sometimes!

It wasn’t aimed at anything other than sometimes docs at over cautious and happy to give out a prescription without the full picture 100% if I need meds I’d have them - but we trust these people to know best and sometimes I wonder.

I have no family history of heart disease your situation is totally different. Def worth asking about the dose.

Sounds like you need to chat with your doctor Steve, hopefully they put you on a lower dose.

Doctors (well some) are quick to put folk on medication rather than try other ways first. Anti-depressants are one I have in mind. Some meds are needed though and I understand that. My MIL takes tablets that make her dizzy, like she's drunk, she can't drive after taking them (late afternoon).

I know how overworked GP's are and how much little time they have to do research into the drugs. Even mixing some drugs can give bad side effects.

I also hate taking tablets, only if I must. Glad I don't need any long term meds.

Some good sessions there guys. We are doing a 5k handicap run tonight at club, going to be roasting!

Good luck tonight Lesley, if you have the wind we have here as a tailwind you'd get a PB! It sounds like Wizard of Oz outside.

Thanks GG. We are doing an out and back along the river - its very sheltered so shouldn't be an issue although a westerly wind on the way back would be good. It definitely won't be a PB, I am no way near fast enough for a sub-24 5k now, if I get 27 I will be happy enough.
