I agree getting lost on ultras isn’t unusual but having a load of signs removed over night and not replaced until after we had set up isn’t what you expect. I wasn’t the only one to add extra distance or drop down because of it. There were some very angry people on the course who like me hadn’t signed up for a self navigation event.
However it’s over with now, it was my target event for the year but hay ho we move on.
Have a good day all

Good that intervals are improving your 5k pace Steve.
I can understand your frustration Lorraine with running off course due to removal of signs before the race. Its happened to me, although not in ultras, where signs were misleading, or deliberately turned to lead us in the wrong direction. Good luck with your running for the rest of the year.
This morning was cold and windy, and I ran 6.5 miles in the forest with the Monday Group. It was an easy pace, chatty run. We don't believe that recovery runs are junk miles.

Hillstrider recovery runs are important and definitely not junk miles.

Just heard from one of the volunteers that there were adults removing the flags because they thought it was litter despite them clearly saying they were for an event couple with a bunch of children moving them around.
Honestly have to wonder about peopl

It happened on a race I did lots of years ago I was doing the half & the marathon route had signs removed causing chaos. Very frustrating for those of you affected & ruining your event

People removing signs, Lorraine. I can imagine the frustration and anger, especially by the end when individual's times and plan have been so thoroughly messed up because of it. Well done for getting through it - and a finish in an ultra is always a great achievement.

I have run a 10k race and others including me have gone in the wrong direction, would have gotten a good time too. I didn't go too far off course, but it wasn't well marked. I was annoyed about it.
I also did a marathon a few years ago when a marshal sent the runners the wrong way. I was running with Metro-Nome, we realised the mistake and went the right way. Was nice being in first place for a few miles. We didn't get to take the shortcut though and even if I did I would have cheated myself. I also saw a marshal sleeping - probably wondered what had happened to all the runners.

Hi all, long time no post..
Hope you are all well and keeping out of trouble...!!!!!
My MS is getting the better of me now and fatigue is a killer. I will be doing my last parkrun / walk this Saturday at Lydiard park (Swindon) and will be no 525 so a good way to sign out and off.
Targets are a thing of the past, as long as I can get out most days and I am breathing that's a start.
I may pop in from time to time. In the mean time take care and God Bless
