looking at this from a distance - would it not be better to aim for some achievable goals rather than this dastardly hard event?

at a guess I would think you would need a solid year to prepare as a minimum, but only on a base of running established over a number of years. Watching it two years in a row I see that really good runners who can run sub 3:30 easily have struggled on some days to get close to 4:30.

On the basis that only an insane person (or from near Milton Keynes) would want to do it more than once then your one time shot has to be your best?

I wonder who wants to join Foxy on his holiday next year?
Sorry Foxy not me, I'm having a rest but I would give it a go again, fantastic experience!

Agree entirely with Naomi. Ultras wouldn't be the maximal training for the 10-in-10. Its all about the recovery. And don't forget that course. Pottering around a flat marathon is not the Windermere course.

Thanks, that makes sense. I'm starting to run higher mileage on consecutive days now (nowhere near marathon distances yet) and I'm feeling good on it. I shall keep building it up and see how I get on. 10 in 10 2013 maybe then :-)
