Looked forward to doing an event last night, Poursuite de la Lanterne Rouge, that I'd done a couple of weeks ago. Signed up, started in the pack nicely, rolling along mid 150 or so other riders, when all of a sudden everyone around me vanished - not just up the road, they just disappeared. On the sidebar they were sort of showing in the sense that it said something along the lines of "150 other riders in this event" but they were nowhere to be seen. Rode on for another 5 minutes, and a few people in the same kit appeared and then disappeared, and then about 5 minutes later the whole leaderboard reappeared and the pack was 90s up the road, presumably having benefitted from a nice draft to pull away from me. That's the first proper glitch I've had.
After that I lost interest. I could have tried to catch back on, but I'd have been toast well before that I suspect.

Hope young Angus has his 94m by now.
Well done Gobi.
Racing seems like a whole new world of complexity whilst I’m still pootling about.

Recoil
I wouldn't say it was complex. I would say it's different and a whole new world of hurt. However it's also a dammed effective workout in my opinion, it pushes you harder than you would in anything else.

TRO Saracen
Tried a TTT last night. Bit of a faff organising pre race and getting the start right but once off it’s really good fun.
We rode well and 7 of us stuck together until deep into the 3rd and final lap and 5 of us rolled across the line.
Sadly DQ’d as I think we had one too many riders registered even though 1 did not even roll off the start ramp.

That was unfortunate TRO
We had 5 not 6 and all had to finish, one had issues so it was a long night. However, it looks like everyone is up for trying again.
Racing is as straight forward as you want it to be. Just enter and race or join Zwiftpower and probably submerge yourself

What are fetchies' views on Zwift Power? I have somehow been classified as a Category B rider which is bizarre! I understand the critieria they use (95% of max power for 20 mins?) but that is really it for me, I can't sustain max power for a very long time on Zwift. I entered a B Race a couple of weeks ago and basically got dropped after 30 seconds!
It seems to me that Zwift Power should be using a longer period of time to determine your category. So I can either drop off the back of B races or get DQ'd on Zwift Power for racing in C and D events...

I suspect that 95% hold for an hour is challenging for everyone, but that does tie in with the FTP calc, doesn’t it? I’m equally nervous about trying anything cat B because of the reputation for ferocious starts, but that 20min calc is the same as you’d get from an FTP test on Zwift I think? Might be wrong...

Yep, 95% 20 min power is often used to estimate 100% 1 hour power i.e. FTP.
There's been a bit of trend to use 100% 20 min power as FTP with the rationale being that a race pushes people more than a test and race numbers for many people outstrip training numbers. That might be a recentish Joe Friel thing, don't recall where it started but know a few cyclists that use it.
So ZwiftPower approach seems ok.
Racing requires better ability to hold interval type power of a few seconds to a few minutes and so anyone wanting to do better in races will need to focus on their explosive power more. Whilst people wanting to do PRs on the Alpe and similar (TTs) will want to focus on power endurance more and don't need to worry as much about explosive power.
