If you look at the cost of organised OWs that's a bit pricey but it's a one off & YW will be looking to skank them also will insist on the most expensive insurance

Mmm, I sort of assumed it had to be Gouthwaite - let's face it, Grimwith is a bit far out of town! I'm not sure I'd fancy swimming in it, though I've ran round it loads of times. It's my favourite point of attack for climbing Meugher, supposedly one of the loneliest hills in Yorkshire. There's a wrecked Cessna on the moors just above it too, that's a decent outing.

That was quite my point. Even YW say the same.

It's my favourite point of attack for climbing Meugher, supposedly one of the loneliest hills in Yorkshire. Wikipedia quotes someone saying "perhaps the remotest and least inviting summit in the Yorkshire Dales". I'll add it to my to-do list

Similar thoughts here.
Though something tells me not many trains'll get me there right now!

You can also access Meugher from Studfold [in Nidderdale], a bit of a drive round though. More adventurous to go from Grimwith and take in Wolfrey Crags at the same time.
* Meugher = pronounced "Moofer"

I think I'd probably try and go from Kettlewell, via the path that runs from Conistone right over to How Stean Gorge.
(Your pronunciation comment reminded me of the note I read in a book that Baugh Fell, up in Garsdale, is pronounced as Bow Fell. Which isn't of course, particularly helpful, given that 'bow' can be pronounced in two different ways...)

I think I'd probably try and go from Kettlewell, via the path that runs from Conistone right over to How Stean Gorge Yes, that would be a good way to do it, I've used that route too. What I did was go a little beyond Sandy Gate (there's some old grouse butts that mark it), cross the beck and then strike off more or less SE up to Meugher. That side is pathless and a bit rough, but it's easier than following the boundary line as far as Meugher Dike. I'm told you can go directly from Yarnbury, but there's a lot of old mineshafts in that area and it looks a bit dodgy to me, also I think the ground north of Grassington Moor is going to be awful.

Hello from Threshfield-ish. Been buying Christmas presents and things at Grassington Market. Not liking your Yorkshire weather much this evening.
Tried to wave to NE as I drove past, but you wouldn’t have seen me through the claggy stuff
