I’ll be in Chicago too. Training had been similar to yours BG!! How far is this parkrun from downtown? |

parkrun is about an hour & 10 mins from downtown - $75 each way by Uber.

There’s a guy organising a coach out there, including a breakfast stop on the way back, although not sure if there is space left on the coach.

Big_G interesting re Boston application numbers, wonder if it means that London GFA will also be tougher. Possible rebound in events after COVID? Last year for London there was no cut off at all on the women and think approx 3 mins for men. Assuming I'm in for London next year (have 4 mins 15 buffer) I was vaguely thinking about targeting a BQ but I think I'd need at least 5 minutes under the standard to actually get in. So probably need 3:29. In a few years I'll gain 5 minutes grace and hopefully will still be speeding up... |

Official Chicago 5k on the Saturday is $45 I think. Seat on the coach was £28 and it should be a decent morning out. Obviously I wouldn’t have paid for an Uber. Auburnette, yes, probably a rebound after Covid. We don’t know the cut off yet but if it’s 5mins+ it’ll be interesting if they tighten the qualifying time up for the following year. Yes, it was 3:06:30 for GFA for me this year, but BQ was ‘only’ 3:20 for my age group. As you go up the age groups it kind of flips, certainly for women (haven’t checked all the ages), where Boston becomes harder than London. |

I'm doing the Chicago 5km. I know it's expensive comparatively for a 5km, but like the idea that my run will be done just after 8am and I can chill out for the rest of the day

Coincidentally I watched the last few mins of the Eurosport coverage of the Sydney Marathon earlier today. The commentators were talking a lot about this year / next being trial events before it becomes a WMM in 2025. That was a good reminder for me that chasing the 6 star medal is a bit like getting an Ironman tattoo. I’m really looking forward to running Boston and I’d love to go to Tokyo so I’m still in for those but probably out of the rest tbh. I’ve been to NY and Berlin loadsa times, don’t need to go run there in the search of a goal that’s about to change. What do you reckon happens for you folks who have the 6 star medal already? You go run Sydney and get the 7 star I suppose! |
