Macca, have you decided about Berlin yet? I remember you mentioned about possibly deferring due to a potential event clash.

Big_G, I was on the wait list for an (bucket list) ultra on the 30th Sept and I've just got an email confirming a place so will look into deferring Berlin. It's a shame (in a good way) so fingers crossed for a Berlin/Chicago double in 2025.

Abbott have a relatively new thing where if you’ve done 3 majors, you can enter a ballot for this year’s NYC. I don’t know the odds and also I don’t know what I’ll do if I actually win, as it’s close to Chicago and cash could well be an issue! I’ll cross that bridge if and when it happens. Abbott has a similar ballot for Tokyo but it’s only for if you’ve done 5 majors. Regarding Tokyo, I did do a 100K challenge and look to have roughly 4.7% chance of getting a place for next year through that and results should be out in a couple of weeks or so I think. Not great odds, but better than London ballot I suppose. I got lucky as I got into Berlin first time through the ballot, so fingers crossed!

A tenuous link to this thread, but have you seen the air quality conditions in NYC at the moment. It’s really bad there, and elsewhere, due to wildfires in Canada. I wonder what would happen if this was on the marathon weekend? Cancellation, I reckon. |

They're doing a guaranteed entry virtual for NYC again this year, to earn a place in the 2024 race by running a virtual marathon this November. That's how I've got in this year. Opens on the NYRR website on June 21 at 12 Eastern! It's first come first serve and you need to be quick... |

DeeGee, I think I’ve just got in via that method. I was in at 12:08, money ‘pending’ on my account immediately and email confirmation a few mins later, and a few mins after that it appeared in my NYRR account. Looks like it sold out after 30mins. There are a couple of local events that I can choose from to do the event as I expect I won’t want to do it on my own. (I nearly didn’t even try. I had my heart set on qualifying, but OH encouraged me to enter this, incase I don’t get a qualification time. I’m pleased I did). |

Big G - yes Cornerstones lakes is about an hour away - a few of us are Ubering there & back & still a bit cheaper than the 5km in the city that's $60 but fun & you do get a medal & a bobble hat.

I was a bit squeaky bum throughout November until I finally got the confirmation, and the keyring and medal even though I knew I'd done everything required of me in terms of the virtual. It was all seamless in the end, though. And the advantage for me was that I could get in early for flights and hotel. |
