Thanks LD. Wanda always settles well in a new environment when staying somewhere but less well if we leave her alone there. However I think it'll just be a case of finding the right place to leave her - ideally where she can't look out of the window easily - which may be difficult in the new house. I think if we invest in another stairgate though we should be able to leave her in the hallway - which is where we intend her to sleep at night anyway and hopefully she'll settle there if we go out. We may have to think about what happens if things are put through the letterbox in such circumstances though!

I’ve a friend who’s made an ace dog cave in the space under the stairs, BBL! Her boisterous springer spaniel loves it. As for the letterbox, we’ve ended up buying a mail box which is fastened to the outside wall, along with a notice on the door asking folk to not use the letterbox...

My Mum had to do that too, Alice. George is outraged by anything being pushed through the letterbox and would immediately destroy it.

Wanda wouldn't touch the post itself (unless something edible was in there) but she'd potentially give someone a nasty fright - and if they struggled to get something through the letterbox and were there a longer than usual time to do so and she got agitated by that we'd get more of the 'that nasty dog' and worse that we try so hard to avoid.

We have a small entrance hall thankfully. Arlo must sound so aggressive to anyone who comes to the door. Goes crazy barking. Postman gives him treats if he.sees him on a walk as well.

Our postie is one of Ernie’s favourite people. I suspect he’s outraged that he doesn’t get to say hello every day.

Son 1's dog has a smashing hidey hole under the stairs too Luckily we've a sort of lobby before the hall proper so Floss barks at one remove to all callers at the door

Got a appointment with another vet practice for Callie and an overall health check. A couple of worrying things picked up. She has base narrow canines so her lower canines are touching the upper gums. Vet is going to speak to a colleague to look at options. Most concerningly is that they checked over her front and back legs. She was in a lot of discomfort when they tried to manipulate back legs. Hip dysplasia is a distinct possibility and they have given her painkillers and recommended I get her booked in for X-rays. Poor pup was not happy - I had to go in to the surgery room to get her to come out. Really not good news but I knew something wasn't right at least now can start dealing with it.

I’m pleased she’s been properly checked over. As you say, any problems can now be addressed.

Sorry to hear about Callie's hip dysplasia Shyfire but good that it's being addressed sooner rather than later xx
