Been out with an injured Achilles tendon, which is sadly still with me. But I just read through 200+ posts!
Congrats to the last 16 and now the last 8 in multiplayer. Amazing efforts.
I just wanted to weigh in on break taking. I'm also (like ITG) feeling a little guilty about mine right now (not very!). I certainly agree with most people that we cannot limit them (for loads of reasons, including injuries, certainly). However, what about a tiny ranking points cost for each break week? I'm thinking of 5 points or fewer. (I would have said "less", as per my usual "grammar is descriptive not proscriptive" ethos, but I'm a little scared about what ITG would say.)
I see this as possibly positive too. We've lost several players from the game in recently months. Often a long break leads to a player retiring completely. Some have said they felt honour bound to leave the game rather than sit on a protected ranking. As their opponent, I'd have preferred that they stayed, and one way to do this without feeling guilty is if the long break comes with a slow, graceful decline in points.
Thoughts? If there is a sniff of approval I'll make a feature request. Otherwise, that's fine.

I take breaks reasonably often, and do feel that it should result in a gradual slide down the rankings - a few points as you say.

I was wondering about that recently particularly if someone took a break of weeks at a time, surely they would lose some ranking points

I think that's a really good solution, DS. I'm taking a break this coming week and would be happy to lose a few points because of it. It seems fair.

Sounds a sensible solution DS. It also means returning from injury is at a potentially less intense level and therefore less likely to trigger the next injury!

I also like the solution DS suggests. WSW was a great motivator while I was getting back into outdoor exercise, but right now I feel like giving it another miss so I can do more running out-of-grid and not keep doing the same routes all the time. I'd rather see a gradual decline in my score than have to quit the game and start back again at 1000 - which I've been considering rather than taking multiple weekly breaks.
