Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

How would you make ballot entry harder then? Charge up front perhaps with refunds only if you are unsuccessful?

I won a place in a twitter competition. It is worth keeping an eye on competitions run by the main event sponsors.

There's some information on the number of applicants each year here london-marathon.s3.amazonaws.com

the old link to payment that we've used to pre-empt the magazines isn't working yet

virginmoneylondonmarathonballot.com

gets later every year - why on earth does it take them so long?

Boston has 80% of entrants as GFA but it seems (from Marathon talk podcast!) they have so many entrants that they still fill up and have more applications

So those who get in are the ones who are 10 -5 mins under the time. So just making the time means you probably still won’t get a place.

Boston draws from the whole USA though so it has a bigger pool. And relatively the bq times are a bit easier than the gfa times for London (even with this year's tightening of the bq times and the 4m52 that you needed to be in by).

But Boston also costs 200usd to enter!!

I’ve had rejections the last 3 years (although ran via a parkrun volunteer place in ‘17). I also have 2 or 3 from about 15 years ago. That was back when 5 rejections in a row got you a guaranteed place. I didn’t keep it up though so was never in contention for that.

I won’t be too disappointed with a rejection this time. Not looking forward to the training if I’m honest. My training buddy has moved away so I’ll have to do a lot more on my own.
