Hi folks, just popped in to say Hi to all of you wonderful folks.

As you see I was at a get together the other day to celebrate my hitting 250 donations a little while ago. I’m a platelet donor so that helps as I donate every three weeks (as they put most of the blood back in) and I collect two donation units each time as well. They take plasma out of me too.
I’m currently at 288 donations and there were whole blood donors with 100 donations at the same gig which I think is amazing!
However many units anybody donates, it’s an amazing thing to do.
I’ll pop this thread onto my watched list 👍

Brilliant stuff Neilio, I'm a platelet donor like you but only around 205 donations. I used to give every two weeks on a Sunday at Brentwood but the centre closed down. My best to get to centre is a 140 mile round trip so I only go once a month now. (My choice to travel this far as there are two centres in London, excluding Central London, but it would take me as long to get there as it does to get to Adenbrookes) Did my last donation a week ago today and got my text today to say that the donation had gone to University College Hospital. Also got the new email linking a map showing the journey my donation had taken!

Many years ago, early 80's, I used to go to Barts to give platelets, in those days the donation meant taking out of one arm and returning into the other and took about two hours!

I can't give platelets. :-( I don't have a high enough count, so it's not worth them harvesting from me! I'm probably around 40 full blood. I wonder what I get when I hit 50? :-) G

Lol! Sorry, as I typed that I suddenly realised "what do I get?" was a bit needy!

It's just that I got a wee bronze heart badge at 25 (I think) and wondered if there was a similar commemorative bit of paraphernalia at 50?! :-) G
