I doubt you’re subsidising Devizes, I’m always surprised by how relatively cheap fuel is elsewhere. Diesel currently 151.9, petrol 145.9

I think it tends to be urban areas where fuel is cheaper, possibly because of competition. Rural areas are more expensive, as are service stations and and anywhere else there is a limited choice of suppliers.

I always prefer to fill up on the mainland whenever possible, when visiting the Isle of Wight! Although it's still cheaper in the supermarket garages there than it is in the "branded" fuel stations on the main roads leading out of Southampton.

My inner socialist says it ought to be like bread (ought to be!) with a fixed maximum price.

Petrol is always cheaper in Gloucester petrol stations than it is less than 9 miles away in Cheltenham. How can that be justified? There are only 3 miles between our nearest Cheltenham station (Morrisons) and the nearest Gloucester-priced station (Tesco) so guess where we go (it's also on our route so we don't even have to detour to get to it.)
Last weekend I filled up at the Tesco @132.9 and was gobsmacked to see that at Beaconsfield services on the M40 Shell were charging 165.9!!! Surely no-one puts more than a dribble in at those prices, just to get them to the nearest alternative?

This could be useful if you do need to fill up when you're on a motorway.

motorway (& airport) prices are high because the rents are sky-high.

We gad a new petrol station built beside us and came right in with cheaper fuel so now the Asda beside has followed suit. The Asda beside beside be was always dearer than the large one as it had no competition. Tonight I filled up at £127.7 for unleaded.

I guess it wouldn't be cost-effective to drive to LG's to fill up :-)

Fuel prices in Aberdeen are pretty good, LG's petrol station is the wrong side of town for me. There is a garage on my way to work it was £1.29 for petrol. It's always queued.
