Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

[My Gas smart meter has only worked properly (i.e. no need for me to take readings) for about a fortnight when it was first fitted. The electric one has worked perfectly since day 1 - but the gas meter has been replaced, and allegedly communicates vial the electric one. And since it moved to Shell, they've had no interest in investigating and fixing the issue. ]

[I'm having a smart meter fitted tomorrow put it off for years. But they say my current one is end of life. I'm not confident though it will do the readings as mobile reception is poor. ]

Apparently you don't have to have a "smart" meter, you can request an old fashioned one.

My brother requested a water meter as he lives alone in a large house. They couldn't install one and for some reason, they were obliged to cut his bill from £200/month to £8/month!

The only reason I conceded to have a smart electricity meter is that SSE would credit my account by £50.
I’ve not had any issues with billing so far.

Our smart meters have been trouble-free and have enabled us to switch to an EV specific tariff which is saving us shed loads of money

It rankles me a bit that there are now schemes that reward people for changing their usage habits to avoid using high power devices at peak times.
I’ve been doing this for years but as I won’t be rewarded as I’m not changing.

TV shows where the presenter shakes hands with the guest/local expert and we're supposed to believe it really is the first time they've met and nothing has been scripted. Always looks awkward and is completely unnecessary.
