the nests aren't necessarily that low RMO3B - I've just seen a neighbour's cat scramble up a tree trunk in an attempt to catch a pidgeon. It's quite a skinny tree and the first branches are at least 6 feet off the ground. It didn't catch the pidgeon BTW

I'm not surprised our (young and fairly nimble) cat gets the baby birds, I was watching some learning to fly on our washing line yesterday, very funny, but very wobbly. :0

Q Mac
My two gingers are Simples and Izzy (sisters) and they will both take down birds a couple of metres in the air - and when they're on the lap, yes, butter wouldn't melt! My grey is Floss and she's the elder, just watches the young 'uns with disdain! My black is Claudine, a loner who watches the world go by and then pounces on the odd unsuspecting rodent My Tortie is Minixe Moo, who, yes lives up to her name - a real Moo!

Just found this thread. Some sad stories (yes I've been blubbing) and some funny moments too, so I've also been LMAO.
I have 3 of the little terrors. I think the most unusual we have had is a chicken carcass and wafer thin ham. Mainly birds and mice though. Was hanging washing out a couple of months ago, when I looked down to find a mouse head looking up at me. Gross, had to get hubby to come and remove it as I felt a bit on the sick side.
Youngest is a little ginger boy (Floyd) almost 2, oldest is around 6 and a black and white cute girlie (Poppy) and the one in the middle (around 5) is mostly black and has 6 toes on 3 of his paws (Merlin). All accomplished hunters. We've been through loads of collars. Doesn't help that I feed the birds, so they think they have a lovely cat cafe in the garden!

I didn't feed the birds for a long time because of that. Two winters ago when it was snowy I started feeding, and have carried on. The birds don't generally come if he's sitting in the garden, and occasionally he sits right by the feeder, but I don't think its increased the number of bird deaths, he's mainly a rodent catcher.
I wish he'd get that pesky squirrel though!

This is my cat Loki when he was about 5 months old. He could barely carry the pigeon he'd caught it was so big. Now Loki is huge and kills something everyday, often more than 1 thing. Still love him though
