There was an area recorded in the Doomsday book called Eastone, meaning East Hill that pronunciation eventually changed to Aston. Later, there was a significant Georgian house built in the area that leant its name, briefly, to the area, Aston Villa. In 1874 the cricket team of a chapel in the area, the Aston Villa Wesleyan Chapel, decided to maintain their fitness over the winter months by forming a football team.
