That it is possible for an endowment company to f*ck up so badly that they pay out two lots of compensation on the same policy.

Don't know whether to be :-) or :-( !

There is a test of wood hardness called the Janka hardness test. Buloke (an Australian tree) is the hardest wood (about four times harder than teak, or English oak).

Ex-pres Jimmy Carter's favourite pastime is woodworking (he has a book on it coming out).

that there is a German word Arrak which I've never seen before. It's listed as an ingredient in some Christmas baking my daughter thought she'd try. It translates into English as various things I've also never seen before, such as Arak or Arrack. It is some sort of alcoholic drink which oddly enough, doesn't feature in my daughter's house. She's going to use vanilla instead.

You can weigh your own fruit and vegetables and print price labels for them in Tesco.

Ouzo would be a better substitution Chris, though diluted; alternatively just add anise. Kummel might also do.

You’d be able to get it in any decent wine merchant.

I wondered if Arak is the same as Turkish Raki and it seems it is part of a family of Grappa like drinks flavoured with anise en.wikipedia.org

Never had hangovers as fierce as a night where Raki was involved but imagine it adds more interesting flavour than Brandy does to a Christmas cake.
