Iberian dust/smoke plus the clouds from dying hurricanes makes the sky go strangely orange/yellow.

You can’t take padlocks into the Palace of Westminster as there is a concern you’ll padlock yourself to stuff. Apparently this rule has been in place since the suffragette movement.

The word "tragedy" appears to have been used to describe different phenomena at different times. It derives from Classical Greek τραγῳδία, contracted from trag(o)-aoidiā = "goat song", which comes from tragos = "he-goat" and aeidein = "to sing" (cf. "ode"). [thanks Swittle]

I thought the connection with goats was unproven.

I don't think there's much doubt about the etymology Chris.

That the specific name for the hard stone (technically the endocarp) inside fruit such as peaches and plums is putamen, plural putemina.

The goat thing: apparently it comes e down to whether the ending is -dia or -doi. The latter was generally used in the 5th century BCE. If that's correct it cannot be "goats who sing" but rather "people who have something to do with goats". It's possible that they were singing for the prize of a goat, or perhaps a goat sacrifice to Dionysus was involved.
