On the job? On the hob ... That was my typo.

Made 3 sisters stew yesterday; 3 sisters being sweetcorn, butter beans and squash.

Toast some oregano, cumin seeds and cinnamon powder in a dry pan. Add olive oil and 2 chopped onions then a few chopped cloves of garlic and allow to soften well with a pince of salt and the lid on. Add a pinch of chilli powder and about 8-10 small skinned cherry tomatoes. Stir for a bit then add some chopped squash (onion or crown prince works well). Put the lid on and cook until the squash is nearly done, adding a wee bit of water along the way if needed. Add the beans and corn last to heat through.

I serve it with quinoa which I've dry toasted then boiled until the crescents in the grain show and it still holds together. The pre-toasting makes it taste nutty.

I felt like I'd eaten loads yesterday and sure enough when I entered it into myfitnesspal I had about 3000 cals. I know we hear a lot about people questioning protein but I do feel like mine was s bit low yesterday. I had porridge in the morning with chia seeds and linseed. Chickpea curry and koko yoghurt, fruit with mixed seeds and I snacked on 50g nuts. Evening meal was a beyond burger (rational was I'd been to the gym)

So trying to reign in cals today but remain healthy too. Same porridge with lentil soup and koko yogurt fruit and seeds for lunch. Banana and satsumas for lunch. Dinner will be a wicked meal for convenience as late work finish etc. I have batch cooked so have lentil soup, chickpea curry and chilli in fridge. Any helpful advice? I need to lose weight. I know I'm not eating enough green stuff atm but last week I was. I enjoy raw spinach but not cooked and I don't really like salad leaves. Kale I like but tend to put it in smoothies or make pesto with I'm just conscious I may not be eating enough of it. I'm tired and have to really push myself to do stuff that's not compulsory (i.e. I have to go to work but really had to have stern words with myself to get to the gym last night)

Hi Early Bird, I haven't had the 'recommended' daily protein intake for 10 years now :) since moving to plant based diet. i've never worried about it as my hair, nails, teeth and bones became the strongest they've ever been. So, I've never seen the need to change anything about it. I've reduced my Protein % in Myfinesspal.

Having said that, I do eat a lot of green stuff. plants like Broccoli, brussel sprouts and mushrooms every day. I do love kale, chard and spinach. I blend them in all soups and add to all curries, risottos and stews.

It works for me.

eb, if you've eaten 3000 calories of a wide range of vegan food you're unlikely to have been short of protein. I can see more than enough protein in what you've written.

Just found this thread, I will start by saying I am not planning on becoming vegetarian or vegan but I am looking to reduce my consumption of meat and dairy and a few meals I do would be classified as vegan friendly.

I got a lovely book for Christmas, Rebel Recipes it is lovely, beautifully illustrated and the chickpea curry was divine (and I make a few versions of chickpea curry already) I have a friend who is indian and he approved of the curry although I'd overdone the cumin apparently.

My other issue with vegan/veggie is a lot of recipes use meat substitutes, I liked my sister in law has Bosh recipe book and their bolognaise was made with finely chopped mushrooms rather than the standard quorn. I'm definitely going to try that one, maybe with lentils.

Thanks everyone. I guess it's hard when you keep hearing the whole thing about protein. I do go to the gym to do crossfit so lift weights a few times a week but atm not noticed any difference really except aching less the next day 😊 I do like broccoli, sprouts and mushrooms Ligi I just don't eat them everyday. I guess it's trying to get the right balance of it all.

Vrap I don't normally eat that many calories but I haven't really tracked them since October last year so was curious. I was shocked at how many calories are in nuts suppose I shouldn't be really 🙄 It did make me think I need to cut them out/down though and don't really want to so will keep them for days when I have soup for lunch etc.
I'm planning on trying a bolognese with lentils GG so will let you know how that comes out.
