Totally. There is statistical evidence for that, IIRC. In a related point, the invention of farming led to a poorer diet, but the ability to support more people.

Berries, pineapple, mango are my favourites...also kiwis, when peeled, though actually I think my blender would make short work of the skin!

Kiwis are a protected bird and you definitely shouldn't be eating them. Kiwifruit on the other hand, are fine! |

Looking for vegan ideas for a barbecue: at the moment here's what in my mind - my usual lentil, tomato and roast aubergine salad - Moroccan carrot salad - grilled courgettes with mint and garlic - tabouleh There's only one vegan guest (not an ethical vegan AFAIK - she eats fish too but no dairy or eggs, avoiding saturated fat), so it won't be an entirely vegan barbecue but I'd like to make a range of things she can have and I'm feeling a bit stuck in the rut with the things above. I do love them but am aware I make them a LOT. Also any suggestions for the best vegan sausages? My usual preference is Cauldron, which she might be OK with as the only non-vegan ingredient is dried egg white. |

That sounds like a great set of dishes. But for something else... Denis Cotter's first two books have some good ideas (Paradiso seasons in particular has an outdoor section), butternut squash coated in a chilli/coriander/cumin is one we use. He's riffed on this a few times, the most basic version is here (a later version adds freshly ground coriander and cumin in addition), which is what we use. Exchange butter for vegan alternative obviously. app.ckbk.com |

I had some Heck Italian chipolatas (thin, not tiny) last week, they were pretty good. Vegan "cheese". Only fried them, so can't comment bbq-wise. (The "ordinary" Heck veggie chipolatas - not so keen.)
