I agree that you have a point about saying the unsayable. That's why I loved Derek and Clive so much as a teenager.
I honestly don't know why Trump got away with it. Maybe because it's part of his anti-politician persona.

I think you're right on his anti politician persona. And re schoolchildren, in case I muddled up meanings - I didn't mean Trump's supporters are like schoolchildren, I don't think that at all, I was equating the amusement factor that is being obtained from his tirades to being the same schoolchildren get. Nothing funnier than a good swearathon at times.
