£5 Ron Hill does the trick for me. I wear a windproof jacket for when the weathers bad but sling on the waterproof when it's needed. Been through some good races with me that one. Still going strong as well.

OMM Kamleika or latest version. I've had one for maybe three years and rate it highly. Much more comfortable than likes of Gore-tex Paclite, cheaper and quieter (none-rustling)

Another vote for OMM Kamleika. Not bargain basement by any means, but light and flexible and very effective. And, yes, quiet!

For light showers, I've use a general Nike Running jacket (£30-40).
For heavier showers I use the Montane Atomic DT2.0. Wore that on an overnight hike where it poured for 8 hours solid and kept my upper body dry. Not cheap at about £80 ish when I bought it. Rolls up into a small bag aswell and very light weight.

Kamleika is cosier than a shell, which is great in winter but perhaps less so in summer
I've also got a Gore-tex Paclite. I think this is more water-proof than the OMM but the OMM gets worn much more often, specially in winter

Montane Featherlite - only had to use it in light showers, but it rolls up really small to go in my pack.
