The "crinkly fabric" is (apparently) what they use to make yacht sails. And UD vests too, obv.

Speyside Ultra sounds ace. 36.5 mile is a nice distance to train for, for a beginner (drifting dangerously close to on topic :-O)

Great thread this I'm doing my first ultra in April I'd built up to marathon first week in Jan was ment to do tanner 30 but downgraded to 20 following week. Doing doubles now till mid march started off 10/15 last week, 12/inj this week (back) was going to be 16. So will do that this week till I'm doing 20/20s for a few weeks. Am I on right track rest of week is like 6/7 x 2 with a bit of speed variance |

Your plan sounds good Hills. Don't worry if you fancy say one weekend per month doing something different, be it a race or a degree of rest. Weekly doubles can become a chore after a while ![]() |

HOD - maybe think about doing a single "long run" instead of a double every few weeks? See if there's an event marathon - 50k distance, preferably with similar terrain to your ultra Run it as a "dress rehearsal" so you get used to your kit, aid station discipline, (i.e. get in/out quickly) - and run it easy, leave your ego at the door and enjoy the day! I like to do trail marathons as training runs, you can find cheap LDWA events which are a great day out ![]() |
