Is anyone able to explain the point of doing a UTMB Index race, (other than the actual UTMB qualifiers, as you'll get an index with these anyway) if just for the purpose of having a UTMB Index? As an Index race alone (if not a qualifier) won't get you a running stone ie a chance of entry into UTMB. "Finishing a UTMB Index race will contribute towards your UTMB Index. However, it will not provide Running Stones." Hope my question makes sense to someoneπ |

Races like Val d'Aran and Ultra Tour Snowdonia that offer stones currently advise the level of UTMB index that is likely to allow you to make the cut offs. I suspect the next planned move was to refuse entries if your index was too low. Creating a two tiered qualification process i.e get an index high enough to qualify for a UTMB qualifier and then qualify for UTMB by finishing that race. However, given that those races are currently struggling to get full entry fields I suspect that plan might be on hold.... |

That would make sense thanks flyingfinn. Otherwise I just don't see the point of doing the non qualifying (those other than the 25 ish in the "series") UTMB Index races if you were just doing them for your index.
