Thanks EdJ, that sounds potentially interesting, have you done it before? If so does it get boggy? Got fed up with the mudfest at hardmoors 30 and I think that put me off winter races

centurionrunning.com Chiltern Wonderland? Relatively flat and is a massive loop so should be easier for logistics

Peddars Way is a great little race, but does require a bit of attention to navigation (not map & compass type stuff) as some of the trail's waymarking is (or at least, was) a bit hit and miss. It also often has proper winter weather, which may be a big plus or minus depending on what you like.

Lakeland Trail's 100k is a good route and flagged/signed throughout (assuming nobody nicks them again!) and they give you a GPX for your watch.

Did the original lakeland trail 55K route and reckon it felt harder than the lakeland 50 but know its been changed. Will look at the 100K

Anna Bomb Chester 50 is local to me. It's a loop so logistics easy. Probably 15/20 mile of canal so flat and easy nav. Then Sandstone Trail and North Cheshire Way so again following signs for those plus it's marked too so I'd say ticks a few boxes for you. Few little bumps (Frodsham and Helsby Hills) but nothing dramatic.

Thought I would pop in here to ask a question .... I'm not doing an ultra but I am running with a rucksack!

I used to use a (free with your entry) IM rucksack so a basic rucksack. It bounced a bit and was rough on my neck and had no waist/chest straps

Last week I got off GG which is a proper running sack designed for ultras as SOOOO much nicer to run in. I love it! I'm not carrying any more than I used to but it's comfortable has straps to keep it in place and fab.

BUT (yes there is a but!) I've had a niggle in my lower back since. I thought I was actually running better with this rucksack (my posture is crap) so I'm not sure if I need to adjust things or if it is just crap posture and non existent core (never do any S&C!)

Thought you could help as it's so nice to run in!!

Sorry to hear this Pix, definitely worth adjusting it to get it to sit better for you, I can’t say I had any issues with it on the training & races and my new one I used for the wall did give me an achy back which I’ve put down to the extra weight & distance (had to carry much more)

May be worth checking how it’s packed, adjusting where it needs to sit well but it could be that it sits into your back rather than just on your back like your old one.

I’m also on with some back strengthening as I also took it as a reminder that I don’t do enough S&C.

Someone else may have a much more helpful response. But hope it gets sorted for you you definitely seem to be finding the pack much better.🤞
