Completely forgot about the Summer Spine, despite intending to nip up to the PW and support!

In general I think the world forgot about the Summer Spine, it definitely falls into the B category in terms of news worthiness. Unless something extraordinary happens (and that doesn't include records of which there have been a few this year) it is largely a non-event except for the participants and their nearest and dearest.

I also forgot and I knew so someone doing the challenger. For me largely due to my big adventure but it didn’t come up in my socials, much more on WHW
Is there a reason it’s not as promoted? Winter spine was all over.

Spot on ff. It's become a "here they go again" thing. I'm sure if you are in it it's a big thing, but not for anyone else.

If there wasn’t a winter spine, I would think about doing the summer spine. And likewise I would look at doing the challenger/sprint if there wasn’t a 268 mile version
I realise this is a flaw in my ego but I can’t help it
And there is no way in a billion year I’m doing the winter spine. That can fcuk off - now way I’m doing a week mainly in the dark and cold. January ultras are a no for me

That's pretty much my thinking too Dave. If I'm not going to do the main event I'm not going to bother.

Intriguing thought process Dave.
I agree about the winter Spine. I'm never going to say never, but the thought of doing the race in January and getting little more than 5 or 6 hours daylight really doesn't appeal that much and then the conditions associated with the winter race - I slipped badly on Great Shunner Fell doing less than 1% of the route for example!
However, if I got to the mindset and training and could justify their entry prices, I wouldn't mind a stab at the summer spine.

My brothers just done the Challenger, walked. From what I’ve seen on social media he enjoyed it and hasn’t had anything bad to say about it.
There’s been a bit on social media about all 3 challengers, I just don’t think it seems as hardcore as the winter one. I won’t be doing 268 miles anytime soon.

I don't really see how the existence of some midwinter silliness detracts from what would be a challenging midsummer adventure.
Though I will also be declining the opportunity to race 268 miles.

True 57ers. This one is on me
But when I hear the Spine I think of brutal winter conditions and Ogee getting his waterproof trousers nicked.
I get limited enjoyment out of night sections so the idea of that being most of the race doesn’t appeal. I like to see what I’m suffering through
